The Hermit

Upright
Inner Light Sacred Solitude Wisdom Carried The Lamp Quiet Knowing
The Hermit stands alone on a quiet hillside at dusk, his lamp held out before him. The lamp is small. He is not lighting the whole world. He is lighting the next step. He has been into the cave; he has seen what was there; now he walks back into the world with a gentler glow. This card comes when you have just finished a deep inner journey — the kind that left you wiser, and slightly more solitary. The Hermit is the patron of the woman who knows something now that she cannot easily explain to others. He asks you to walk by your own light today, especially in the rooms that will not see it. The light is enough. You do not have to prove it. You do not have to teach it. You only have to walk by it.
He asks: What inner knowing have you returned with this weekend, that you can walk by today without needing anyone to validate it?
A Mini Ritual

The lamp on the desksmall light, small witness

The Hermit's medicine is no longer in the cave — it is in carrying the cave's wisdom forward. So the practice is small and ceremonial, and lives where you do today's work.

i
Find a small candle. A tea light, a taper, anything. Place it where you do your work — your desk, your kitchen counter, wherever today's tasks happen.
ii
Light it as you begin your day. Speak one sentence aloud, even quietly: "I walk by my own light today."
iii
Let it burn for the first hour of your work. You do not have to look at it. You only have to know it is there.
iv
Blow it out at the hour mark. Notice that the morning is now slightly different. You have witnessed yourself begin.

The Hermit promises: the light does not leave when the candle does. It has moved into you.
