The Ace of Cups carries the energy of sacred first-cup-mother — not the achiever who must produce visible abundance with fanfare, but the small tender sovereign who already softly holds the sacred small tender cup with five streams flowing and a dove descending softly above. She is the sacred first-cup of Cups, and today — Sacred First-Softening with Sacred Doubled Jupiter, on Jupiter’s own venerated Thursday — she arrives at the sacred first-softening moment of the newly-begun cycle.
She is not, softly, asking you to fill the whole cup. She is not asking you to prove that the threaded direction has produced visible fulfillment, to defend it against emptiness, to make the softening performable before allowing it. She is offering the small tender cup itself: notice the sacred small tender five streams softly flowing, feel the sacred small tender water softly holding the cup, let the softening be, softly, a softening.
This is not depletion.
It is softening.
There is a difference.
Denise Levertov names it: The mystery that there is anything, anything at all.
The sacred first-softening does not need to fill the whole cup to be true.
She comes, softly, from the very willingness to let the cup overflow as the threaded direction receives into water.
She has, faithfully, always been welcomed by the dove.
