Today, softly, the body offers the tender first small tempering — the small tender alchemical blending of the arc’s remembered warmth into carry-forward essence, held with love as the Waning Crescent Moon rests softly at her third day at Leo (the Sun’s own fire-home, ingressing softly toward Virgo late in the day) on Mars’s own venerated Tuesday.
The sacred twenty-sixth morning of the newly-begun cycle carries a beautifully alchemical current: Mars-day (Tuesday, the day of the ancient forge-god and the metallurgical arts of tempering) meeting Temperance (Major Arcana XIV, the very card of alchemical blending) meeting the Waning Crescent Moon at her third day at Leo (the Sun’s own fire-home). The alchemical feminine takes the arc’s remembered warmth and softly tempers it into what will be carried forward.
Tempering is not, faithfully, extinguishing. She is the sacred art of the sovereign feminine who takes what has been given (yesterday’s remembered warmth, the arc’s given kindnesses) and softly blends it — through patience, through the small alternation of warming and cooling, through the trusting of slow work — into essence dense enough to carry through the coming dark days. The affirmation names the practice: the tender first small alchemical blending, held on Mars’s own venerated day.
Today, I give thanks for the body who offers the tender first small tempering gently — the small trusting of slow work as the arc’s given warmth is softly blended into essence, without demand that the tempering produce a visible finished form.
The body who has, faithfully, welcomed, anchored, brightened, deepened, stirred, told, blessed, chosen, rooted, filled, widened, balanced, threaded, softened, flowered, harvested, integrated, settled, nourished, whispered, communed, come home, released, warmed, and remembered these last mornings now stands, softly, at the sacred first-tempering threshold as the fourth week of the newly-begun cycle continues to wane. Today the Waning Crescent Moon rests softly at her third day at Leo (the Sun’s own fire-home) on Mars’s own venerated Tuesday — the sovereign feminine takes the remembered warmth and softly tempers it.
The body who can offer the soft tender tempering of the arc’s given warmth is, faithfully, one of the most patient sovereign capacities any modern human being ever allows. The chronic cultural pull is toward the immediate finished product — the polished result, the visible completion, the outcome that can be photographed and posted. Today’s gratitude is for the smaller tempering the sovereign feminine has always known: the patient blending of the arc’s warmth through the slow alternation of small tender warmings and small tender coolings, until essence emerges of its own accord.
Today’s Temperance carries this exactly — the sacred first-alchemical-sovereign-feminine, small tender angel with one small foot resting softly on the small tender land and one small foot resting softly in the small tender pool, softly pouring the small tender liquid between two small tender chalices, the small tender ibis-crown of Egyptian Thoth-wisdom glowing softly at the small tender brow, the small tender path winding softly through the small tender iris-blooming meadow behind toward the small tender crown of the small tender mountain — the sovereign feminine of the first-tempering, small tender essence emerging softly between the small tender vessels.
The rare embodied capacity for tender feminine tempering — the body who can, softly, trust the slow alchemical blending of the arc’s given warmth without demand that the tempering produce an immediate visible finished form.
Waning Crescent Moon Leo Day 3 on Mars’s own venerated Tuesday, with the Moon still visiting the Sun’s own fire-home, brings a particular invitation to the body: practice the rare embodied capacity of tender feminine tempering — the body who can, softly, allow her own alchemical blending to unfold at her own faithful pace rather than force the essence into premature form.
A sacred sovereign feminine softly turns toward the sacred first-tempering as she is honored by Mars’s own venerated Tuesday, at the Sun’s Leo throne where the Moon wanes softly as guest, on the day Temperance (Sacred First-Alchemical-Sovereign-Feminine) holds the card. And the body who can, today, trust the slow alchemical blending becomes the body for whom essence, faithfully, emerges of its own accord at the right time.
The newly-begun cycle carries, faithfully, its own emerging arc: welcoming (Day 1) → anchoring → brightening → deepening → stirring → telling → blessing → choosing → rooting → filling → widening → balancing → threading → softening → flowering → harvesting → integrating → settling → nourishing → whispering → communing → homecoming → releasing → warming → remembering → tempering → and the deepening waning days that will unfold. The fourth week of the newly-begun cycle continues its softening arc.
Today asks the body one small practice: allow one small tempering. One small trust of the slow work. One small refusal of the demand for immediate finished form. One small pause of the polishing hand. One small honoring of essence-still-emerging. The small tempering that no productivity metric can measure.

Today the Waning Crescent Moon rests softly at her third day at Leo (the Sun’s own fire-home, ingressing softly toward Virgo late in the day) as the Sun rests softly at her fourteenth full day at Venus’s Libra on Mars’s own venerated Tuesday — the sovereign feminine tempers the arc’s given warmth into carry-forward essence, held gently by Doubled Venus-and-Sun-at-Home in the same relational air.

Waning Crescent Leo Day 3 on Mars-dayand the sacred geometry of the body’s tender first small tempering
The Waning Crescent Moon (~22-28% illumination, waning steadily toward the dark days) rests softly at her third day at Leo (the Sun’s own fixed fire-home) with Virgo ingress arriving softly late in the day. The Sun continues at Libra Day 14 (Venus’s cardinal air-home). Tuesday is Mars’s own venerated day — the sky’s ancient metallurgical current runs strong, tempered by Leo’s waning fire and Libra’s relational air.
Somatically: this is the sovereign feminine’s alchemical blending of the arc’s remembered warmth into carry-forward essence, held with the softness of the waning phase. The body may notice the sacred first-tempering softly arriving as the willingness to trust slow-work — a decision that will only fully form over days, a piece of clarity that is still gathering, a small essence that is still emerging in its own time. The small warmth in the belly when trust of the slow work returns, the small softening of the jaw when the demand for immediate finished form releases, the small quiet knowing that essence is, faithfully, gathering itself even when nothing visible has yet been produced.
Mars (Tuesday’s ruler) softly presides over the day of the ancient forge and the metallurgical arts. His visit at Leo’s waning throne is not, faithfully, the fire of aggression; today he is the smith-Mars, the tempering-Mars, the patient alternation of warming and cooling that shapes essence into carry-forward form. Sacred Doubled Venus-and-Sun-at-Home continues (Sun at Libra + Venus at Libra), softening the whole configuration with relational warmth.
The sacred art the body practices today: not premature completion, not polishing-anxious perfection, just trust of the slow blending. Temperance teaches this exactly — the sacred first-alchemical-sovereign-feminine, small tender angel with one small foot on land and one small foot in the pool, softly pouring the small tender liquid between two small tender chalices, the small tender iris-meadow blooming softly behind, the small tender mountain-crown glowing softly beyond — the sovereign feminine of the small tender alchemical blending, honored simply for its own honest patience.
The twelve currents today

Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror.
Just keep going. No feeling is final.
— Rainer Maria Rilke, The Book of Hours
Rainer Maria Rilke — the Bohemian-Austrian poet born in Prague in 1875 to a German-speaking family, widely considered one of the most spiritually-oriented poets in the German language, whose work influenced generations of contemplative writers from Anna Akhmatova to W. H. Auden to Robert Hass — wrote Das Stunden-Buch (The Book of Hours) between 1899 and 1903, publishing it in 1905 (Insel Verlag). He died of leukemia in 1926 in a sanatorium in Switzerland, at fifty-one, having left behind the Duino Elegies, the Sonnets to Orpheus, and the Letters to a Young Poet.
The Book of Hours is Rilke’s early masterwork — three sequences of prayer-poems written in the voice of a Russian monk, addressed to a God whose name is softer than the God of institutional Christianity. The book is deeply concerned with the slow alchemical practice of allowing life to shape a person over time. Today’s line is drawn from the widely-loved Anita Barrows and Joanna Macy translation (Rilke’s Book of Hours: Love Poems to God, Riverhead Books, 1996), which softened Rilke’s early German into contemporary English that catches the devotional current beneath.
Let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. This is exactly what today’s Sacred First-Tempering asks the body to allow. Temperance does not, faithfully, refuse the beauty or the terror; the small tender angel with one foot on land and one in the pool simply pours the liquid softly between the two chalices, allowing everything to be blended into essence over time. Rilke’s line is the sovereign feminine’s permission to trust the alchemical process without any single moment having to be the whole truth.
What one small tender first-tempering is the body quietly asking to trust today — not the finished polished result, not the outcome that can already be shown, but one small piece of essence-still-emerging that has, faithfully, been asking for slower alchemical patience?
Sometimes the tender first small tempering does not open easily. Many of us have been trained, by long cultural inheritance, to associate patience with weakness — as if the honest trust of slow alchemical blending somehow betrays a modern imperative toward visible immediate productivity. The body’s soft first-tempering can feel indulgent at first — as if allowing one small piece of essence-still-emerging its own tender pace requires some elaborate justification.
Three softer entry-points into today’s question, each honoring the body’s own faithful pace:
- Not-yet-formed door: what one small piece of your inner life is currently in an alchemical middle-place — a decision that is not-yet-decided, a knowing that is not-yet-articulated, a direction that is not-yet-chosen? Write from the middle-place, not from the desired arrival.
- Slow-work door: what one small piece of your outer life is being asked to unfold slowly — a project that will only fully form over months, a relationship that is deepening at its own pace, a healing that will not, faithfully, be rushed? Write the honoring, not the impatience.
- Two-cups door: if you had two small chalices in your two small hands right now — one holding what you have already received in this cycle and one holding what you are still allowing to arrive — what would the small tender pouring between them be softly blending toward? Write the blending, not the finished essence.
The tender first small tempering of the sacred first-alchemical-sovereign-feminine — five small acts of soft feminine slow-work-trust honored as the whole holy work of this sacred twenty-sixth morning on Mars’s own venerated Tuesday.
Today’s medicine begins with the simple physical act of noticing where the arc’s given warmth is currently being blended in the whole body on Mars’s own venerated day. Temperance does not, faithfully, demand a dramatic outward performance. The small angel simply pours the small liquid between the small chalices, and the body who can take this small embodied pause becomes the body for whom the rest of the practice naturally unfolds.
Mars on his own venerated day teaches the sacred art of the smith’s patient tempering. The noticing of one middle-place is the sovereign feminine’s honest first step. Rilke’s line points here: let everything happen to you: beauty and terror. Just keep going. No feeling is final. The middle-place is, faithfully, holy work; the alchemical blending is happening whether or not the polishing hand approves the pace.
Mars’s smith-work is enacted in the body by this small granting of trust. Temperance’s small angel pouring between two chalices is the sovereign posture of the tempering: the essence crossing softly between what has been and what will be. What you allow to keep gathering today, the sky is, faithfully, holding above.
The small waiting for one small answer is, faithfully, already tempering. Rilke’s Book of Hours is a long tender attention to how the answer comes only when the question has been held long enough. The small giving of one small piece of honest patience is the sovereign practice.
The closing whisper seals the practice. The body who names her own tempering becomes the body who inhabits it. Nothing further is required today — the small first-trust allowed here is, faithfully, the whole sacred first-tempering, complete on its own tender terms, blessed by Temperance in the small tender iris-meadow of alchemical blending.
