Today, softly, the body offers the tender first small warming — the small kindling that no roaring blaze can reach, held with love at Sun’s own venerated hearth as the Waning Crescent Moon completes softly her Cancer water and ingresses into Leo (Sun’s own home) on Sun’s own venerated Sunday.
The sacred twenty-fourth morning of the newly-begun cycle carries a rare triple convergence — Sun-day (Sunday), Moon arriving at Sun’s own venerated Leo home, and Venus continuing her doubled residence with the Sun in Libra. The body who has, faithfully, released yesterday under the Last Quarter now stands at the sacred first-warming threshold, invited softly to kindle one small hearth-flame rather than force a roaring blaze.
Warming is not, faithfully, conquest. She is the sacred art of the gentle-sovereign-feminine who tames the wild fire with love. The affirmation names the practice: hearth, not blaze; gentleness, not force; the small tender kindling that any body can offer without dramatic outward performance.
Today, I give thanks for the body who offers the tender first small warming gently — the small kindling that quietly returns within, without demand that the flame perform elaborate outward proof of itself.
The body who has, faithfully, released yesterday under the Last Quarter Moon in Cancer now stands, softly, at the sacred first-warming threshold. Today the Moon completes softly her Cancer water-home and ingresses into Leo (Sun’s own venerated fire-home) on Sun’s own venerated Sunday — a rare triple-Sun activation across the sky.
The body who can offer the soft tender warming of one small tender kindling gently returning within is, faithfully, one of the quietest sovereign capacities any modern human being ever allows. The chronic cultural pull is toward the roaring blaze — visible, productive, dramatic. Today’s gratitude is for the smaller flame the sovereign feminine has always known: the hearth that warms without needing to prove.
Today’s Strength card carries this exactly — the sacred first-gentle-sovereign-feminine softly with her hand on the lion’s mouth, taming the wild fire with love and not force. The body who honors this quietly becomes the body for whom the sacred first-warming naturally kindles.
The rare embodied capacity for tender feminine warming — the body who can, softly, kindle one small hearth-flame at Sun’s own venerated hearth without demand that the flame perform elaborate outward conquest.
Waning Crescent Cancer→Leo on Sun’s own venerated Sunday brings a particular invitation to the body: practice the rare embodied capacity of tender feminine warming — the body who can, softly, kindle one small hearth-flame with love rather than force.
A sacred sovereign feminine softly turns toward the sacred first-warming as she is witnessed by the Sun’s steady radiance on his own venerated day and companioned by the sacred small tender lion softly at her side. And the body who can, today, allow the soft tender warming becomes the body for whom the hearth naturally holds.
The newly-begun cycle carries, faithfully, its own emerging arc: welcoming (Day 1) → anchoring (Day 2) → brightening → deepening → stirring → telling → blessing → choosing → rooting → filling → widening → balancing → threading → softening → flowering → harvesting → integrating → settling → nourishing → whispering → communing → homecoming → releasing → warming → and the days that will unfold.
Today asks the body one small practice: kindle one soft warmth for yourself. A cup of tea held in both hands. A hand on your own heart. A window opened to sunlight. The small hearth-flame that no roaring blaze can reach.

Today the Waning Crescent Moon completes softly her Cancer water and ingresses into Leo (Sun’s own venerated domicile home) on Sun’s own venerated Sunday — a rare Sacred Triple-Sun-Activation as the sky itself teaches the gentle-sovereign art of warming.

Waning Crescent Cancer→Leo on Sun-dayand the sacred geometry of the body’s tender first small warming
The Waning Crescent phase begins today (~40-45% illumination) — the sacred quieting into the coming dark moon. This is the eighth morning after the Sacred Harvest Moon’s peak. The Moon completes softly her two-day rest at her own Cancer home and softly ingresses into Leo, arriving at Sun’s own venerated domicile home on Sun’s own venerated day.
Somatically: this is water → fire crossing. The interior emotional-body of Cancer softly hands off to the heart-center fire of Leo. The body may notice the sacred first-warming softly returning — not as sudden ignition, but as gentle hearth-glow rising in the chest. The soft warmth beneath the sternum, the pulse behind the eyes, the small heat of tears that do not need to fall.
The Sun remains at her twelfth full day in Libra (Venus’s own air-home), doubled with Venus — Sacred Doubled Venus-and-Sun-at-Home continues. Combined with Sun-day itself and the Moon arriving at Sun’s home Leo, three solar-hospitality currents converge: the sky is unusually radiant today, though softly, in the Waning Crescent’s quieted way.
The sacred art the body practices today: not the roaring blaze but the small hearth. The Strength card teaches this exactly — sacred first-gentle-sovereign-feminine softly with her hand on the lion’s mouth, taming the wild fire with love and not force.

Be joyful though you have considered all the facts.
— Wendell Berry, Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front
Wendell Berry — the American poet, essayist, novelist, farmer, and environmental philosopher whose fifty-year body of work has grounded much of contemporary agrarian and place-based thought — wrote the poem Manifesto: The Mad Farmer Liberation Front in 1973. Born in 1934 in Henry County, Kentucky, he has lived and farmed on his family’s land there since 1965, and his writing braids together the practical daily labor of a small farm with a fierce, tender poetics of belonging.
The poem is a set of instructions for living in defiance of what Berry calls the “Quantifiable, the Efficient, the Measurable.” Its central refrain is to plant sequoias, to laugh, to praise, to love — to hold joy alongside honest reckoning rather than in denial of it.
Be joyful though you have considered all the facts. Not despite. Not before. Though. The line arrives late in the poem, after Berry has already named the losses, the extractions, the honest darkness of our particular moment. Joy is not a refusal of the facts; joy is the sovereign choice made in full view of them.
For today’s Sacred First-Warming on Sun’s own venerated Sunday, this is exactly the teaching Strength offers — the sacred first-gentle-sovereign-feminine who tames the lion with love, not by pretending the lion is not wild, but by meeting the wild with kindness that will not be shaken. The small hearth-warmth kindled today is joy in the Berry sense: considered, sovereign, alive.
What one small tender first-warming is quietly gathering within your own actual lived form today — not the roaring blaze, but the small hearth-flame that no dramatic outward performance can reach?
Sometimes the tender first small warming does not open easily. Many of us have been trained, by long cultural inheritance, to associate warmth with visible productivity or dramatic emotional display. The body’s soft first-warming can feel foreign at first — as if the small hearth-flame is somehow “not enough” without something bigger to point to.
Three softer entry-points into today’s question, each honoring the body’s own faithful pace:
- Body-door: where in the body is there already a small warmth — the palms, the sternum, the base of the throat, behind the eyes? Write from what the body already knows.
- Object-door: what one small warm thing is nearby right now — a cup, a blanket, a patch of sun on the floor? Write from what has already met your body kindly today.
- Refusal-door: what would it feel like to refuse, today, one thing that has been demanding a roaring blaze from you? Write from what softens when you set that down.
The tender first small warming of the sacred first-hearth — five small acts of soft feminine warming honored as the whole holy work of this sacred twenty-fourth morning on Sun’s own venerated Sunday.
Today’s medicine begins with the simple physical act of allowing the body to arrive on Sun’s own venerated day. Strength does not, faithfully, demand a dramatic outward performance. The sovereign gentle-feminine sits softly with her lion beside her in the dawn-honey-gold light — and the body who can take this small embodied pause becomes the body for whom the rest of the practice naturally unfolds.
The Waning Crescent Moon teaches the sacred art of quieting. The small warmth already present in the body — not manufactured, not conquered, just noticed — is the doorway. Wendell Berry’s line points here: be joyful though you have considered all the facts. The noticing is the joy.
Cancer → Leo is water → fire, and the meeting-place is the heart. The hand on the heart is the sacred first-warming made physical. Strength’s hand on the lion’s mouth is the same gesture in mythic form — the sovereign gentle-feminine meeting the wild with love that will not be shaken.
The Sacred Triple-Sun-Activation asks a small outward radiance from the body who is willing. Not a performance. Not a project. One small tender warmth passed from your body to the world. The gentle-sovereign-feminine tames the lion with love — and the world, softly, receives a little of that love today through you.
The closing whisper seals the practice. The body who names her own warming becomes the body who inhabits it. Nothing further is required today — the small hearth-flame kindled here is, faithfully, the whole sacred first-warming, complete on its own terms.
