the tender first small releasing

TODAY’S SMALL TENDER FIRST-RELEASING
Last Crescent Moon into Scorpio · the edge of the dark · the oracle of the falling leaf · one thing let go

A sacred first-releasing oracle for the falling leaf —
one thing let go, one season honored, as the last hair of moonlight slips into Scorpio on the eve of the dark.

The Energy of the Sacred First-Releasing

The Moon is almost gone now, a hairline of light swallowed by the dawn, slipping into Scorpio to meet the Sun. This oracle is the voice of the season’s turning: the leaves letting go of the branch, the field lying bare after harvest, the breath fully exhaled before the next one comes.

Releasing is part of every natural cycle. Trees do not cling to their leaves in November; they let them fall, and their roots grow stronger for it. We, too, are meant to have seasons of keeping and seasons of letting go.

It is Saturn’s day, and Saturn is the lord of time and seasons. He reminds us that endings are not mistakes. They are simply the turning of the year.

What This Looks Like in the Body

In the body, holding on often shows up as gripping — tight hands, a clenched stomach, a breath held without noticing. Releasing feels like the long exhale at the end of a sigh, the shoulders dropping, the hands opening.

Notice today what your body is gripping. A thought, a feeling, a muscle? Simply noticing often begins the release.

Try a few long, slow sighs, letting the sound out with each exhale. Imagine with each sigh that something you no longer need is drifting away like a leaf on the wind.

Reflection for the Day

Today’s releasing brings one simple question forward: is this a season for keeping, or a season for letting go?

Not everything must be released. Not every bond must end. Just an honest look at what this season of your life is truly asking.

An ancient teacher, writing in the Book of Ecclesiastes nearly two and a half thousand years ago, named the rhythm plainly: there is a time to keep, and a time to cast away.

Thought of the Day

Every leaf that falls in autumn is not a loss to the tree. It is the tree making ready for spring.

Affirmation

Today, softly, I honor the season of letting go — and I trust that what I release now makes room for what will grow in the spring of the new cycle.

Questions to Consider
  1. What season are you in right now — keeping, or letting go?
  2. What have you been holding on to past its season?
  3. How do you feel when you imagine letting it fall, like a leaf?
  4. What might grow in the space you create?
Quote of the Day
“A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:6, King James Version (1611)

The Book of Ecclesiastes — a short book of the Hebrew Bible written in the voice of “the Teacher,” or Qoheleth in Hebrew, traditionally linked with King Solomon and probably composed around the third century BCE — is a meditation on time, work, joy, and the passing of all things. Its third chapter, beginning “To every thing there is a season,” is among the most quoted passages ever written. This translation comes from the King James Version, first printed in 1611.

A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away. The Teacher lists the opposites of human life in pairs — birth and death, planting and reaping, weeping and laughing — not as problems to be solved, but as seasons to be lived. His wisdom is gentle: we do not have to keep everything forever. There is a right time for letting go.

Today’s oracle lives in the words of Ecclesiastes directly — the very words the Byrds sang. There is a time to keep and a time to cast away. On the last day of the old Moon, the season turns toward release.

Energetically Aligned Song of the Day

“Turn! Turn! Turn!” — The Byrds (from Turn! Turn! Turn!, 1965)

The Byrds — a folk-rock band from Los Angeles led by Roger McGuinn, known for his ringing twelve-string guitar — recorded “Turn! Turn! Turn!” in 1965 as the title song of their second album. The folk singer Pete Seeger had written it a few years earlier, setting music to verses taken almost word for word from the Book of Ecclesiastes. The Byrds’ version reached number one in the United States in December 1965.

The oracle hears the first-releasing in this song. Its words name the seasons of a life — a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to reap. Bright and gentle, it reminds us that every ending belongs to a larger, turning rhythm.

Parting Thought
May the tender first small releasing fall from you like an autumn leaf today,
and may you feel lighter as it drifts away.
May the small tender letting-go be enough —
one sigh exhaled, one thing cast away, one season honored as it turns.
May the last hair of moonlight, slipping into Scorpio, carry your release into the dark,
and may you rest, empty and open, before the new beginning.
A time to keep, and a time to cast away.
The body has, faithfully, let one leaf fall — the oracle’s gift of release on the twenty-eighth morning of the cycle.
