the tender first small clearing

TODAY’S SMALL TENDER FIRST-CLEARING
Waning Crescent Moon in Virgo · the slender silver bow · the oracle of the useful and the beautiful · one window opened

A sacred first-clearing oracle for the useful and the beautiful —
one window opened, one shelf made bare, as the slender crescent enters Virgo on Mars’s energetic day.

The Energy of the Sacred First-Clearing

The Moon has grown slender, a thin silver bow in the dawn sky, and she has stepped into Virgo, the tidy, healing sign of the harvest maiden. This oracle is the voice of the clean slate: the swept floor, the open window, the empty shelf waiting to be filled with only what matters.

Clearing does not have to mean a great purge. It can be as small as one drawer, one inbox, one thought set down. Each small clearing is a breath of fresh air for the body and the mind.

It is Mars’s day, and Mars gives the push to begin. He reminds us that the hardest part of clearing is usually the first step — and that energy returns as soon as we take it.

What This Looks Like in the Body

In the body, clutter often feels like a low hum of tension — a restless, scattered feeling, a slight heaviness when we walk into a crowded room. Clear space, by contrast, feels like the breath deepening and the shoulders dropping.

Notice today how your body responds to different spaces in your home. Where do you breathe easily? Where do you tense up?

Try standing in a freshly cleared space with your arms stretched out wide. Turn slowly in a circle. Feel the room around you — the gift of space.

Reflection for the Day

Today’s clearing brings one simple question forward: is this useful, or is it beautiful to me?

Not everything must go. Not every room must be bare. Just one honest look, and one small choice about what earns its place in your life.

William Morris, the English designer, poet, and craftsman, gave this as his golden rule for the home — and it applies just as well to our calendars, our habits, and our thoughts.

Thought of the Day

Every empty space is an invitation. What you clear away today is the room where something better can arrive.

Affirmation

Today, softly, I make room — keeping what is useful and what is beautiful, and trusting that space itself is a gift.

Questions to Consider
  1. Which space in your home feels the most peaceful, and why?
  2. What would you remove from your life if you knew you would not miss it?
  3. Is there anything you keep out of guilt or obligation rather than use or love?
  4. What would you like to make room for as the new cycle approaches?
Quote of the Day
“Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful,
or believe to be beautiful.”
— William Morris, “The Beauty of Life”

William Morris — born in Walthamstow, near London, in 1834, the son of a wealthy businessman; who studied at Oxford and fell in love with medieval art and craft; who founded a company that made hand-printed wallpapers, fabrics, stained glass, and furniture, many with designs of flowers, birds, and vines; and who was also a poet, novelist, and printer — gave this advice in a lecture called “The Beauty of Life” in 1880, published two years later in Hopes and Fears for Art. He died in 1896.

Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful. Morris believed that ordinary life should be filled with honest, well-made, lovely things, and that clutter and cheap ornament made people poorer, not richer. His “golden rule” is still one of the simplest guides for clearing a home — and a life — of what does not belong.

Today’s oracle lives in Morris’s rule directly. When we keep only what is useful or beautiful, the clouds of clutter lift — and, like the song, we can see clearly now.

Energetically Aligned Song of the Day

“I Can See Clearly Now” — Johnny Nash (from I Can See Clearly Now, 1972)

Johnny Nash — born in Houston, Texas, in 1940, who began singing in his church choir and on local television as a teenager, and who later spent years in Jamaica, becoming one of the first American singers to record reggae — wrote and recorded “I Can See Clearly Now” in 1972. Recorded in London with members of Bob Marley’s band, the Wailers, it became the title song of his album and reached number one in the United States.

The oracle hears the first-clearing in this song. It is the joy of the morning after the storm — the rain gone, the obstacles cleared, the way ahead bright and open. Simple and uplifting, it is the sound of a mind and a life made clear.

Parting Thought
May the tender first small clearing open a window in your life today,
and let the fresh air in.
May the small tender space be enough —
one shelf emptied, one obligation released, one quiet corner made ready for what is coming.
May the slender Moon in Virgo help you see what truly belongs,
and may you keep only the useful and the beautiful.
Have nothing that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.
The body has, faithfully, made room — the oracle’s gift of space on the twenty-fourth morning of the cycle.
