the tender first small meeting

TODAY’S SMALL TENDER FIRST-MEETING
Crescent Moon conjunct Venus in Scorpio · then toward Mercury · the oracle of two lights face to face · presence without performance

A sacred first-meeting oracle for two lights face to face —
the young Moon reaching Venus in Scorpio’s deep water, and the self arriving, unhurried, to be met exactly as she is.

The Energy of the Sacred First-Meeting

In the early hours the crescent Moon reaches Venus in Scorpio. Venus has been walking backward through this deep water sign since October 3, revisiting old loves and old values. Now the new light of the cycle arrives beside her. This oracle is the voice of that encounter — two feminine lights meeting face to face in the dark.

Later in the day the Moon draws on toward Mercury, also in Scorpio, so the meeting widens: feeling (the Moon), love (Venus), and understanding (Mercury) gathered in one sign. It is a rare chance to let heart and mind sit at the same table.

The sacred first-meeting current is about presence. Not fixing, not performing, not becoming anything more. Simply arriving, as you are, and letting yourself be met.

What This Looks Like in the Body

In the body, a meeting often feels like recognition: the small jolt of truth when someone says exactly what you were feeling, or when you finally admit something to yourself. It can feel like relief and exposure at once.

With Venus retrograde, the meeting may be with your own past — a younger self, an old love, a version of you that wanted something you have forgotten. Let her come close. You do not need to become her again. Just say hello.

Notice where your shoulders are. If they have risen toward your ears, let them drop. Meeting begins when the body stops bracing.

Reflection for the Day

Today’s meeting brings one quiet question to the surface: what would it feel like to be fully met, exactly as you are, with nothing to prove?

Most of us spend our days arriving as someone slightly different from who we are — a little more capable, a little more cheerful, a little less tired. The Moon meeting Venus offers a day off from that.

Virginia Woolf named it plainly: there is no need to hurry, to sparkle, or to be anyone but yourself. That is the only condition for a true meeting.

Thought of the Day

To be met is not to be impressive. It is to arrive unhurried and unadorned, and discover you were enough the whole time.

Affirmation

Today, softly, I let myself be met exactly as I am — no need to hurry, no need to sparkle — and I meet others in the same gentle way.

Questions to Consider
  1. Where in your life do you feel most fully met, exactly as you are?
  2. What “sparkle” do you put on for others that you could set down today?
  3. If a younger version of you came to meet you this morning, what would you want her to know?
  4. Who could you meet more fully this week, by listening without trying to fix or impress?
Quote of the Day
“No need to hurry. No need to sparkle.
No need to be anybody but oneself.”
— Virginia Woolf, A Room of One’s Own

Virginia Woolf — born Adeline Virginia Stephen in London in 1882; who became a central figure of the Bloomsbury circle of writers and artists; who founded the Hogarth Press with her husband Leonard in 1917; whose novels Mrs Dalloway (1925) and To the Lighthouse (1927) changed how fiction could follow the inner life; and who died in 1941 — wrote these words in A Room of One’s Own (1929), the book-length essay that grew from two lectures she gave at the women’s colleges of Cambridge University in October 1928.

No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself. In A Room of One’s Own, Woolf argued that women needed money and a private room to write — but also the inner freedom to stop performing. These three short sentences are a permission slip: to slow down, to be plain, to be whole. They remain among her most beloved lines because they speak to anyone tired of being more than herself.

Today’s oracle lives in Woolf’s words directly. A true meeting asks nothing of us but presence. When we stop hurrying and stop sparkling, we become available — to ourselves, to others, to the moment.

Energetically Aligned Song of the Day

“Running Up That Hill (A Deal with God)” — Kate Bush (from Hounds of Love, 1985)

Kate Bush — born in 1958 in Bexleyheath, Kent, who wrote and recorded her first hit, “Wuthering Heights,” while still a teenager — released “Running Up That Hill” in 1985 as the lead single from Hounds of Love. She has described it as a song about two people wishing they could exchange places, so each could truly understand what the other feels. Nearly four decades later, in 2022, it returned to the charts and reached number one in the United Kingdom, finding a whole new generation of listeners.

The oracle hears the Moon meeting Venus in this song. It is a longing for understanding so complete that two hearts could swap places — the deepest kind of meeting there is. With the young Moon and the goddess of love side by side in Scorpio, it is a reminder that being truly understood begins with the willingness to understand.

Parting Thought
May the tender first small meeting find you unhurried and unadorned,
arriving as yourself, and discovering that yourself is welcome.
May the small tender presence be enough —
shoulders dropped, sparkle set down, one honest hello to the self you have been carrying.
May the young Moon and Venus sit together in Scorpio’s deep water,
two feminine lights meeting face to face, and may you be met as kindly.
No need to hurry. No need to sparkle. No need to be anybody but oneself.
The body has, faithfully, been met in the tender first small meeting — the oracle’s gift of presence on the second morning of the cycle.
